We are currently looking for a Staff Data Engineer for one of our clients, a key player in technology and data analytics for Commercial Real Estate industry. The Staff Data Engineer will be part of a mix of projects involving Data Engineering activities across the internal Product Development or Product Enablement streams.


Key responsibilities


  • Work closely with the VP of Data & Senior Technology leadership to architect new scalable and durable Enterprise Data Platform components;
  • Own key Data Engineering initiatives or domains;
  • Establish Data Engineering best practices and champion them;
  • Establish direction for new critical Data Engineering components by creating MVPs/PoCs to steer;
  • Data Engineering efforts on the right path;
  • Optimize critical Enterprise Data Platform components;
  • Review existing components/features of the Enterprise Data Platform periodically and create improvement plans, identify potential issues;
  • Review work done by other Data Engineers, provide advice on data warehouse integration, design, scalability, performance;
  • Mentor up-and-coming Data Engineers to help them advance to the next level;


Technical skills


  • Deep understanding of data warehousing methodologies (Kimball, Inmon, Data Vault 2.0)
  • Deep understanding of data modelling (relational, entity-relationship, object-oriented, flat, query first)
  • Deep understanding of data engineering design patterns (data contracts, raw loads, replication, batch ETL, streaming ETL, ELT, stream processing, data virtualization, change data capture)
  • Deep understanding of micro-services architecture in at least one major Cloud platform (Azure,
  • Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud)
  • Ability to architect & lead from a technical perspective, create best practices and continuously improve using at least one tool/software/technology for each following areas:

o MPP (Snowflake preferable, but open to the following as well: Firebolt, Azure Synapse Analytics, Redshift, Teradata, Impala – list not exhaustive);

o ETL/ELT (one of the following at the very least: SSIS, Informatica, Talend, StreamSets, Apache NiFi – list not exhaustive);

o Storage (AWS S3 preferable, but open to one of the following as well: Azure Blob, Azure Data Lake, Google Storage, general HDFS – list not exhaustive);

o Microservices Architecture (Azure Functions/Azure Kubernetes Service preferable, but open to the following as well: AWS Lambda, Amazon EKS);

o Data Ops/DevSecOps/DevOps (GitHub Actions preferable, but open to the following as well: Azure DevOps, AWS CodeDeploy, Jenkins, Artifactory, Maven, SonarQube – list not exhaustive);
